Introduction ~ Process ~ Task ~ Resources & Evaluation ~ Conclusion

Nutrition is becoming an important topic in child development due to the increased incident of child obesity. Societal trends have changed dietary habits for young and old.

The problem of childhood obesity in the United States has grown considerably in recent years. Between 16 and 33 percent of children and adolescents are obese. Obesity is among the easiest medical conditions to recognize but most difficult to treat. Unhealthy weight gain due to poor diet and lack of exercise is responsible for over 300,000 deaths each year. The annual cost to society for obesity is estimated at nearly $100 billion. Overweight children are much more likely to become overweight adults unless they adopt and maintain healthier patterns of eating and exercise.

    1. The webquest will begin by the students reading and understanding the task given below.

    2. Then the students will be able to use the resources listed to find the nutritive value of the foods they recorded.

    3. After finding these food values, they will then compare them to the values needed for children ages 7-12. Using this comparison they will explain in one page why or why not this diet would not be healthy for an 8 year old.

    4. Having completed these tasks, they will then read the conclusion and answer the questions listed there.
